Quality of Life

TekTone world headquarters is located in the beautiful mountains of western North Carolina where residents enjoy an unsurpassed quality of life. The 517 square miles of Macon County, NC include the towns of Franklin (the county seat) and Highlands, plus numerous smaller communities. Almost one-half of the county is comprised of the Nantahala National Forest, the largest in North Carolina.

While the climate is mild, there are four distinct seasons. The area boasts plenty of woodlands, beautiful streams, waterfalls, mountains, hills and valleys. Macon County’s “green factor” is unparalleled in the region. We have a variety of outdoor activities, such as whitewater rafting, fishing, hiking on the Appalachian and Bartram Trails, boating and skiing, and we are only 40 minutes from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

The TekTone campus is located in a beautiful rural area, but is by no means isolated. We are just one hour from Asheville, NC and just over two hours from several major business centers, including Atlanta, GA, Greenville/Spartanburg, SC, and Knoxville, TN.

TekTone products are designed and built in our FDA-registered, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. Operating for more than 50 years, we provide our customer base around the world with world-class support, and we have a strong commitment to product design. All healthcare products are designed, manufactured and tested in the USA, while all software is written and owned by TekTone. We have our own in-house engineering department that is constantly working to use new innovative technology to improve our products, and a primary focus organization-wide is Continuous Improvement of service, quality, and processes.

Franklin, NC

The people are friendly and organize year-round activities, including festivals and arts & crafts events. There are countless trails for hiking, including the Little Tennessee River Greenway, and the views are breathtaking. A paradise for those that love the outdoors, Franklin is designated as an Appalachian Trail Community. Franklin is home to approximately 3,600 citizens, but the population nearly doubles during the spring, summer and fall seasons due to our temperate climate and beautiful scenery. With a healthy tourism industry and lots of local people taking an active role in the community, Franklin offers endless opportunities for the entire family.

TekTone Sound & Signal Mfg., Inc., located in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina, is searching for a full-time Engineering Technician for our organization.  

This is a full-time hourly position with benefits.  Four-day work week and flexible schedule available.  Benefits include health insurance, dental insurance, vacation, 401K/Profit Sharing and more.  

Responsibilities include: 

  • Performs system hardware, system software and product testing associated with new product(s).
  • Assist in assembling prototype and Beta/Limited Release Program units.
  • Assist in facility test system installation, testing, monitoring, reporting and maintenance.
  • Designs and builds or updates Alpha Test Systems.
  • Assist in setup, programming and operation of sample systems for UL submittal.
  • Keeps Alpha Test System status at the ready for when needed.
  • Prepares and maintains test system design documentation such as interconnect and inventories.
  • Prepares new and revised system test plans as well as periodic reviews and provides Engineering Compliance Coordinator with revised files to be placed on the server.
  • Performs other engineering support tasks as requested.
  • Provide initial support to production and other departments during new product pilot runs.
  • Start and maintain a “Technician’s log book”.  Can be electronic.

TekTone Sound & Signal Mfg., Inc., located in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina, is searching for a full-time Senior Software Developer/Manager for our organization.  We are looking for someone with expertise in developing secure web services, managing and efficiently accessing large databases, and integrating with other systems via web APIs.  We prefer someone who can design and develop software using technologies such as, but not restricted to:  Python, PHP, Go, JavaScript, Typescript, Git, PostgreSQL, Docker, MQTT.  We would also like someone with expertise deploying web applications on cloud platforms.  This position will involve helping to design and develop features on our Tek-CARE System as well as our Tek-CARE Cloud Services.

 

An ideal candidate would care about the quality/safety of the product, customer experience, reputation of the product and company and commercial success.  We need someone with an awareness of general software development ecosystem, willingness to research and adopt new technologies as appropriate.  Good communication skills with other developers and the ability to communicate efficiently at a “high level” and have that imply the right “low level” details.  Must possess the ability to manage other developers and assign appropriate tasks for both project success and personal development, give appropriate instruction and review and integrate work.

 

Qualified applicants will have a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, related field or equivalent experience, a minimum of 10 years’ experience developing and consuming secure web APIs and a minimum of 5 years with large database design.  Masters’ degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience preferred.

Ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) are health care facilities that offer patients the convenience of having surgeries and procedures performed safely outside the hospital setting. This trend in healthcare is a growing new market and TekTone has designed our systems to offer valuable nurse and emergency call capabilities to ASC patients.

ASC

Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRC), also known as Life Plan Communities, are designed for seniors who are currently living independently, but want the safety and security of being cared for as they age without having to relocate. As a resident’s health declines, he or she may transition from an independent living residence to assisted living, to an intermediate or skilled nursing facility—all on one campus. TekTone offers systems specialized in adapting to the changing needs of CCRCs, while keeping resident’s safety and security a top priority.

CCRC

A skilled nursing facility (nursing home, convalescent home, care home or rest home) provides a place of residence for those who require continuous nursing attention. Services available in skilled nursing facilities include assistance of nurses, nursing aides and assistants; physical, occupational and speech therapists; social workers, recreational assistants; and living space. In some instances, residents may reside in skilled nursing facilities to receive rehabilitation or other therapy following an illness or accident.

SKILLED NURSING

Assisted living / independent living facilities usually have a campus-wide call system so a resident can notify caregivers by initiating a call from a personal pendant or emergency button press/pull. The systems specified for these types of facilities are usually referred to as emergency call systems or personal emergency response systems. Call system requirements in assisted/independent living vary, but may be mandatory in some states. Assisted living facilities may prefer a combination of Tek-CARE wireless and wired technology, with pull-cord stations, call buttons and wireless pendants to ensure staff members are notified efficiently and quickly.

ASSISTED LIVING

Nurse call systems for hospitals, microhospitals and cancer centers must offer more than the ability for a patient to call for a nurse. These systems are now about total solutions to improving facility performance. Performance is identified as improving efficiency in terms of facility goals (rounding, reducing time to answer calls, tracking staff performance using metrics), improving staff satisfaction, and improving patient satisfaction.

HOSPITAL INFO

Nurse call systems in high security facilities, such as psychiatric and behavioral health facilities, require the implementation of advanced features to protect against vandalism and to provide accurate monitoring and reporting options.

The Tek-CARE platform provides customizable communication solutions for all types of healthcare facilities. TekTone’s wired and wireless nurse call systems provide flexible features and integrations to assist staff members in providing the greatest care for residents. In addition to the safety and security provided by the nurse call system, TekTone also offers the Tek-CARE Wander Management system to help keep at risk residents away from harm and Fall Detection and Monitoring offering peace of mind for caregivers, residents, and their loved ones. With the Alert Integration Manager, these systems can be integrated to display calls at one convenient location, as well as provide customized management reports. Along with reporting, the Tek-CARE Staff App can be used to notify staff on-the-go using iOS or Android devices or display monitors using Tek-CARE TV.

TekTone’s roots lie in the manufacturing and design of apartment entry systems. With multiple station options, custom engraved panels and retrofit capabilities, Tek-ENTRY apartment systems provide a convenient and reliable communication path for residents.
