October 1, 2020 is the 30th year that we celebrate the International Day of Older Persons as established by the United Nations. This year the day takes on special meaning as the pandemic caused by COVID-19 has halted the lives of millions of people and brought special attention to older people, who are actively the most at-risk group. Today, we celebrate the nurses and other healthcare professionals who care for our older loved ones and keep them safe.
This day is being celebrated in both the Year of the Nurse and the Midwife and at the beginning of the Decade of Healthy Ageing, both global initiatives aimed at celebrating nurses and also at improving the quality of life for older people around the world. Today, we celebrate the lives and accomplishments of older people, while also bringing awareness to the disparities they face regarding their health and working to improve their access to care and overall wellbeing.
At TekTone, we work to provide new technologies that allow seniors to call for help when they need it, improving their quality of life and ensuring that assistance is there at their most vulnerable times.
